Inspired by Jazz
A
dazzling performance of Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G by
the brilliant young pianist Joyce Yang, a recent winner of the Van
Cliburn Piano Competition, is one highlight of this concert. Also on
the program, Gershwin’s original suite from his operatic masterpiece, Porgy and Bess and two exciting, early jazz-infused works by Morton Gould. One of the Gould works, Chorale and Fugue in Jazz, was
his breakthrough piece, premiered by Stokowski and the Philadelphia
Orchestra in 1936.

| Pianist Joyce Yang captured the Silver Medal in the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
