Inspired by Jazz

A dazzling performance of Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G by the brilliant young pianist Joyce Yang, a recent winner of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition, is one highlight of this concert. Also on the program, Gershwin’s original suite from his operatic masterpiece, Porgy and Bess and two exciting, early jazz-infused works by Morton Gould. One of the Gould works, Chorale and Fugue in Jazz, was his breakthrough piece, premiered by Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1936.
