Love Letters
A Valentine’s Concert

Romance your ears this Valentine’s Week with three love-themed works, Robert Schumann’s glorious homage to his wife, Symphony No. 1, “Spring;” Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, “Elvira Madigan;” and the world premiere of Love Songs by Troy-based composer and RPI professor, Neil Rolnick. Neil has collaborated with the orchestra’s new music ensemble, Dogs of Desire. Love Songs will feature two major cutting edge artists in a unique pairing, singer Theo Bleckmann and Violinist Todd Reynolds. The program also features one of the most exciting young pianists on the scene today, Orion Weiss.

neil rolnick:
Love Songs (World Premiere) Theo Bleckmann, Vocals, Todd Reynolds, Violin

mozart: Piano Concerto No. 21, “Elvira Madigan,” Orion Weiss, Piano

schumann: Symphony No. 1, “Spring”

Vocalist Theo Bleckmann has been a steady force in the music scene in New York. The New York Times called him “excellent” and for the past two years, Bleckmann has been voted into the small group of artists called “the Cultural Elite” by New York Magazine.

Violinist Todd Reynolds studied with the late violinist Jascha Heifetz. His music has been called “a charming, multi-mood extravaganza, playful like Milhaud, but hard-edged like Hendrix” (Strings Magazine).

Pianist Orion Weiss, 25, has established himself as an extraordinary talent exhibiting great maturity bolstered by remarkable technical skills. He was featured in the Musical America and Symphony Magazine as the next generation of great artists in classical music.
