This collaboration with Albany Pro Musica, the Capital Region's preeminent choral ensemble,  includes two choral masterpieces.  Bach's Magnificat, for five soloists and five-part chorus, was composed in 1723, Bach's first year as cantor of the famous Thomas Church in Leipzig.  He revised the work 10 years later. Although only a half hour in length, this telling of the Canticle of Mary is one of the crowning glories of the Baroque era.

John Corigliano's "Fern Hill" is a beautiful, lyrical setting of Dylan Thomas' poem about his pastoral boyhood.  "Fern Hill" is an early work by Corigliano, written shortly after his graduation from Columbia University.  Filling out the program is Haydn's magnificent Symphony No. 48, nicknamed "Maria Theresia”, said to be written for the Holy Roman Empress, Maria Theresa of Austria.

This concert is also being performed on Sunday, October 14 at 3:00PM >>
