The concert

This program begins with the vivid energy of Joel Thompson’s world premiere, full of color and drama. The evening’s heart is Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most electrifying piano works ever written. From lush opening chords to soaring climaxes, it captures every shade of human emotion, brought to life by legendary pianist Garrick Ohlsson.

The program concludes with Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a masterpiece of charm, wit, and deep feeling. Each variation paints a vivid portrait of friends, family, and even pets, moving effortlessly between playful humor and tenderness.

Under Music Director David Alan Miller, the orchestra takes full advantage of the hall’s rich acoustics, moving from bold, contemporary sounds to two timeless masterpieces. This concert promises to be an immersive and unforgettable evening.
