idea Transformational Initiatives

Incorporating equity, diversity, and inclusion best practices in all aspects of the Albany Symphony is a strategic priority to ensure the organization’s longevity and its service to the community.

The Albany Symphony will take significant actions to be more inclusive by broadening our audience and community partnerships, increasing the diversity of our orchestra, and evolving how and what we provide in the experience of engaging with music.

The Albany Symphony will:

Artist: The Stage is Our World

Consistently offer a greater range of diversity among guest artists (soloists, composers, educators, conductors), particularly from the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community.

Ensure the performers on stage reflect the diversity of the community

The Music: We are what we Perform

Include diverse musical genres, compelling presentation formats, and meaningful works that resonate with the broader community and spark audience members’ discovery of new musical adventures.

Community: Door are wide open to People and Partners

Attract and retain a broad range of new audience members while continuing to engage current members.

Enhance relationships and interactions with increasingly diverse communities and actively reduce the historical, physical, and psychological barriers—both implicit and explicit—that block engagement with the Symphony. Collaborate with other organizations and businesses to establish and enhance mutually beneficial outcomes.
