Take a ride of a lifetime and ascend to Valhalla with Wagner’s thundering Ride of the Valkyries.

Did you know? Ride of the Valkyries is one of classical music’s most well known masterpieces and has secured a permanent place in American pop culture. You’ve most likely heard it in movies like The Blues Brothers and Apocalypse Now as well as hit T.V. shows like Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons, and Looney Tunes.

VIOLINIST STEFAN JACKIW

OPENING NIGHT | Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 7:00PM

Violinist and recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, Stefan Jackiw returns to the Capital Region to make his Albany Symphony debut performing Brahms’ passionate Violin Concerto.

Did you know? Brahms wrote only one Violin Concerto in his lifetime and dedicated the work to his friend and violinist Joseph Joachim. Joachim would later declare the concerto “one of the four great German violin concerti.”

BRITTEN’S WAR REQUIEM

November 11, 2018 marks the centennial anniversary of the Armistice, the official end of World War I. Commemorate and explore “the great war” through the Capital Region’s first performance of Britten’s moving War Requiem in over 40 years.

Did you know? Benjamin Britten was an outspoken pacifist and a conscientious objector during WWII. Britten adapted the text from Latin Mass of the Dead and interspersed it with poems by British war poet, Lieutenant Wilfred Owen.

On the cover of the score Britten quoted Owen, "My subject is War, and the pity of War. The Poetry is in the pity. All a poet can do today is warn."
