Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy Executive Director Mark King will lead this family-friendly hike on one of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy's recently acquired easements, the Margaret Craven Snowden property, adjacent to the Heldeberg Workshop in the Town of New Scotland. This exclusive Albany Symphony hike on private property will explore the beauty of the Conservancy’s Helderberg Conservation Corridor. Enjoy a waterfall, wildflowers and unique, scenic views of the Helderberg Escarpment from below. Hikers will encounter an active beaver pond and there may be sightings of red efts or other amphibians. Easy to moderate difficulty, approximately 2 hours.

Recommended: Waterproof hiking boots or galoshes, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, water and snacks. 

Directions to Hike: From the 4 corners in Delmar NY- Head West on Kenwood Ave (Rte 140) to New Scotland Rd (NY-85 W) for 1.7 miles; Turn slightly Left and continue on New Scotland Rd for 5.5 miles; At New Salem turn Right on 85A East for .6 miles and turn Left on Picard Rd (Co Hwy 306).  In approximately 1 mile turn Left on Martin Road Extension; hike and parking on left.

The entire composition studio of the Yale School of Music, 13 members strong, will collaborate on the creation of a 13-part song cycle on poetry about the natural world, to be performed by a 9-member ensemble of Albany Symphony musicians, four brilliant young singers, and conductor David Alan Miller.

Yale composers contributing newly created songs to the project are: Krists Auznieks, Matthew Bridgham, Natalie Diettrich, Katherine Balch, Ehtna Braun, Hilary Purrington, Benjamin Wallace, Tiange Zhou, Brian Heim, Dylan Mattingly, Molly Joyce, Michael Gilbertson, and Lilita Ugay.

The uniqueness of the project lies not only in the creation of stunning new art songs by some of the most exciting composers of tomorrow, but also in the collaboration between these young composers and the Albany Symphony’s musicians.

The concert will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11th, at historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 58 3rd Street, in Troy, NY.  St. Paul’s has a fully integrated Tiffany interior, and is one of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s greatest masterpieces.

A crystalized art-rock/new music percussion ensemble performs selections from its new album, “Peaks,” as well as Sleeping Giant composer Robert Honstein's masterful percussion trio, “Index of Possibility.”

Heavily influenced by contemporary music, Pop, and avant-garde, TIGUE unites a homegrown ethos with conservatory precision, elevating their unique and imaginative performance style. Their debut album “Peaks” was released on New Amsterdam Records in 2015 and praised by the New York Music Daily as “an imaginative, distinctive, hypnotic yet kinetic blend of indie classical, minimalism, post-rock and drone music”

Two towering virtuosos join together for a program of major two-piano works, including John Adam's “Hallelujah Junction,” Frederic Rzewski's “Winnsboro Cottonmill Blues,” and Mary Ellen Child's “Kitter.”

The New York Times has described Blair McMillen, who teaches at Bard College, as “riveting,” “prodigiously accomplished and exciting,” and as one of the piano’s “brilliant stars.” The English pianist, Stephen Gosling has made over 30 recordings, and is one of New York City’s busiest and best pianists.  Conductor David Alan Miller said, “These are two of the greatest pianists on the planet, and the chance to hear them together on the stage of the legendary Troy Savings Bank Music Hall performing their favorite repertory is a once-in-lifetime opportunity!”

The power of a rock band, the sophistication of a classical chamber orchestra: Dogs of Desire performs new works by America's best young composers, exploring all that is wild and wonderful in American pop culture, with dazzling multimedia works and freewheeling, fabulous creations and collaborations.

This year's performance will feature recent works by Sleeping Giant composers Ted Hearne and Jacob Cooper as well as three world premieres by Rob Honstein, Conor Brown, and the amazing Brazilian-American composer, Clarice Assad.

Commissioned by GE Renewable Energy in partnership with the Albany Symphony, Assad's new work will explore the ethereal power of the wind and feature Clarice Assad and percussionist Keita Ogawa as soloists.
